Rae-Rae and MB

Over the Easter weekend, I was able to catch up with Maribeth and Raela for a couple of hours before they went out. This picture definitely looks like it was taken in high school... but its actually a picture of them "all dressed up" before they went out to see the "Molly Ringwalds" (80s cover band) who were playing that night at Seville. This band is actually from New Orleans and they were charging 20 bucks a ticket in Pcola! Anyway, I just had to post this picture and if you guys are reading this- it was great to see you. Now, you will have to come visit me out in Cali when I get settled!

The Sistrunks

I wanted to post some pictures of my friend Jeni, her husband Jim and their son Carson who will be 2 very soon! Jeni and I have known each other since high school and has been one of my best friends for so long! Its so great to see her and her family and wish the best for them and possibly a #2 soon? Anyway, we got to catch up this past Saturday during Easter weekend and I wish we could have spent more time together. I know everyone was so busy with their own family plans but I am glad we got a little time together and hopefully more when they come to New Orleans for Jazz Fest! I love you Jeni and Jim and hope to see you again this weekend.

Just kidding. I just love this shot of us sisters. This was from our trip to Key Largo after our first dive of the weekend. We went out with a dive operation called Sea Dwellers and had a great time on our dives. It was a very special weekend.

Divas of Jazz

Ok, so one of those pictures is actually NOT one of the Divas of Jazz, but I could see how you could think that! Its a picture of us at the performance and the other women are the real Divas of Jazz.

Friday night, we went to the Contemporary Arts Center (CAC) to watch 6 amazing women (plus other guest performers) for 4 solid hours for 15 bucks! You just can't beat that and I will miss getting such amazing (not just good... amazing) music for little to nothing. Again, great venue- audience was small and intimate and the sound is great in this place. Bob French was the MC for the night and was getting a bit rowdy talking about "Nagin, go back to Houston... " and some other comments that were not really appropriate seeing how there were little kids in the audience. Nonetheless, he was funny and a good time was had by all.

My favorite part of the night was when all the ladies got together on stage at the end to perform "Down by the Riverside". Everyone got up out of their seats and danced until they kicked us out!

Jazz at Snug Harbor

Its been so long since I've seen music at Snug Harbor. But about a week ago, we went to see Peter Harris there (bass player who plays with many cool artists like Ellis Marsalis) and the show was awesome and I love the venue. Small, intimate and a New Orleans landmark for great jazz. Take a peek.

A Riza Update 4.6.06

Well, its hard being unemployed, but I'm managing! Actually, I've been quite busy since my departure a little over a month ago. As you can see from my blog, I spent 2 weeks in Melbourne Beach FL visiting with my sister and did go down to Key Largo for a few days. Since then, I've been back and forth from New Orleans to Pensacola helping my brother move all of his stuff, his girlfriend's stuff and luckily, my stuff out to California! Ron and Emma had been out in LA for a couple of weeks looking for an apartment and now that they found one, he flew back to New Orleans last Sat, I drove with him to Pcola on Sunday night and Emma's dad Jon flew in on Monday night to meet us. The three of us packed up ALL of our stuff that was in and around my mom's house and headed for New Orleans!

We packed up a 26 foot Uhaul and trailed my brother's nissan frontier to New Orleans. What should have taken 3 hours took us about 4.5 which isn't too bad considering. When we got to New Orleans, we slept a few hours (got there at 4AM!) and then once again started packing up the stuff in his house, my house and then to Emma's old apartment to pick up her motorcycle! It took us until midnight and then Ron and Jon headed for their next stop Houston. From there they go to Pheonix to visit Emma's brother and the final destination- Los Angeles.

I can't believe this day is finally coming when I move out of New Orleans. At this point, I will stay here until my cousins graduation and Jazz Fest since some friends are coming in town which is around the first of May. After that, Shay and I will take some time to chill before hitting the road and taking our journey out West. Her family lives in Nor Cal- Milpitas- so we will stop in LA, drop off my car at Ron and Emma's or my cousin's Antoinette and then I will hop in Shay's car and head up to Milpitas with us making a stop in San Francisco to visit my brother.

I know- its going to be a crazy journey out there... and we plan to stop in Austin, Santa Fe and Pheonix before hitting LA. I hope we make it all the way there- but I'll stop whereever I can get wireless along the way to send updates.

Oh- and as of the end of June- Rose and I will be heading to the Galapagos Islands for 8 days and then Peru for some time to hike Macchu Pichu... then after that, I'll get settled. Of course unless we end up going with Shay and her family on the Alaskan cruise in August. Cross your fingers that I will have enough money to pull that one off!

Of course, this all could change tomorrow- but this is the update for today.

8419 Sycamore Place

Just wanted to post some pictures of my house that I will miss so much when I move from New Orleans. I only lived there 3 weeks before Hurricane Katrina and because of my situation, still owning lakeview house (that got over 6 feet of water!) and all the repairs I had to come out of pocket with to fix the uptown house, I had to rent it out to help pay one of the mortgages. A company called Bonar has been renting my place out since December and they have been putting all these different sub-contractors in my place. A total of 20 different people or more have lived there since December (all messy boys!) and this weekend, there will be another change of crew living there. I miss my hardwood floors and because materials were scarce, I had to put in the "fake wood" which I guess turned out ok all things considered. Anyway, just wanted to share these pics and there are more on my flickr account!

Monique's Big Day!

It was such a lovely night. There were hundreds of people there at the party held at her mom's house. Monique looked beautiful, the food was delicious and plentiful, the alcohol was flowing.... good times!

It was great to see some old friends I hadn't seen since before the hurricane. One in particular, Samantha, who Monique and I went to college with and who lives in Ft. Lauderdale now. I haven't seen Sam in sooo long and she looked fantastic- better than ever! She also announced that baby #2 was coming and I am really excited for her.

Here are some pictures from that night and I posted a few on my flickr account.Congratulations again Monique and sorry again about having to bail on our massages at Spa Aria.. but I want to take a rain check!
